International Conference on Water, Environment and Health
Van - Turkey (YUZUNCU YIL UNIVERSITY)
May 20, 2012 - May 22, 2012
Leading scientists from Turkey, the USA and many other countries will gather to share the latest advances in water sciences with emphasis on sustainable resource management, ecological restoration, waste water recycling and health. The main topics of the International Conference on Water Su-Wave 2012 are Erosion, Flood and Coastal Pollution, Biodiversity of Lake Van, and water treatment using wetland plant species. Soil erosion is a major global environmental problem and not only Van and its close vicinity suffer from erosion, but also Turkey does. Flood and coastal pollution are also two important aspects that should be considered for a healthy environment. Biodiversity is a huge benefit for tourism development. As I aforementioned, Lake Van is alkaline and only one fish species (pearl mullet) can adapt this environment. However, Van and its close vicinity is one of the most fascinating environments with its biodiversity. Natural or constructed wetlands behave as wastewater treatment systems, using flow beds to support water-loving plants. The roots of these plants provide an aerobic environment to insistently break down contaminants. For this reason, it is of great importance to protect wetlands adjacent to large bodies of water. In this conference, the above-mentioned topics will be discussed by very valuable scientists. We wish all the attendees an enjoyable conference and hope that they are able to take away some valuable information. We are very glad and proud to be part of this organization and very much look forward to your participation in the the International Conference on Water Su-Wave 2012. Prof. Dr. Peyami Battal
