Marmariç Ecovillage in Turkey

The Permaculture Research Institute Turkey is planning to host three prominent events in summer 2012. First a Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course will be organized in Istanbul on 30 June — 12 July, 2012; held by two legendary trainers, Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton. Following the PDC, a Regional Permaculture Conference will take place in Istanbul on the 14th of July. Last but not least the PIT would like to welcome you at its field practice venue; Marmariç village in Izmir, for the Regional Permaculture Convergence – the Mediterranean, Balkans Caucasus and Middle East.

This open call aims to inform you about these events and to form an international prep team for the preparations.

Below, further explanations are provided about the events. We wanted to reach out to a group of existing contacts of the institute, in order to ask for your support. We look for volunteers who would like to join our International Prep Team (IPT).

What is expected from the IPT?

The Permaculture Research Institute Turkey As a young member of the permaculture family, we would like to create a group of interested permaculture practitioners from countries in the region to shape the program of the Regional Permaculture Conference and the Regional Convergence together. We hope to have at least one multiplier from each country in our region, who:

  • is in touch with the local network of permaculture practitioners and
  • can provide us with feedback on local realities, practices and contacts,
  • propose topics/speakers for sessions,
  • help us in disseminating information about the events to ensure high
levels of participation from different localities in the region for a fruitful gathering.

How to join the team?

We made contact with several permaculture practitioners on different occasions showing an interest in these events and now we are trying to reach you by this web post. However we still lack contacts in many countries and also don’t want to overlook anyone who would be interested in joining the IPT. So if you would like to forward a link to this post to some contacts of yours, whom you think would be interested, feel free to do so. Should you wish to join our team of international volunteers please send an email to dijan (at) permacultureturkey.org

Description of events:

PDC course: The Permaculture Research Institute Turkey will host a Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course in Istanbul in 30 June-12 July, 2012. Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton are coming to Istanbul, the ancient city flanking the strait of Bosphorus – the edge between continents, climates and cultures – to deliver a PDC course. This is the second time the PIT brought the two legendary permaculture teachers together in the Northern Hemisphere. The full 72-hour PDC course starts on the 30th of June and ends on the 12th of July 2012.

Since the first Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course was offered in 1972, people from widely diverse backgrounds and interests have graduated. Farmers, ranchers, landowners, foresters, landscape designers, architects, builders, planners, developers, accountants, financiers, bankers, publishers, attorneys, aid workers, educators, environmentalists and high school students have all brought permaculture techniques into their homes, businesses and communities. This course is for anyone interested in gaining practical skills and perspective for sustainable living and productivity.

During this two week course, you will gain an understanding of permaculture theory, building your knowledge of all the necessary aspects to become fully conversant with permaculture design. By the end of the course, you will be able to confidently create your first permaculture design plan.

For further information on application process and fees please follow our website. We will supplement it with up-to-date information on logistical arrangements and useful travel tips in time.

Regional Permaculture Conference:

The Permaculture Research Institute Turkey will be hosting a conference for sharing the best practices in the region right after the PDC; on the 14th of July in Istanbul. Our team is currently working on program development. Feel free to send us your comments, suggestions and tips. We count on your support in reaching out.

Regional Permaculture Convergence:

The Permaculture Research Institute Turkey will host the international permaculture family. We would like to welcome our friends from the Meditarrenean, Balkans, Middle East and the Caucasus who have a PDC to join us at the Regional Convergence in Marmariç; the field practice venue of PRI Turkey.

This convergence, taking place between July 17-21, 2012, will bring together numerous prominent experts, trainers, and activists with extensive experiences as well as friends who have recently obtained their certificates and are looking for new opportunities. We will be exchanging good practices, knowledge and experience.

We invite members of the permaculture family from the targeted regions to join the prep team and become actively involved in the shaping of the program.
